The Studio Build - Day 8, a test shoot

Dean in shades

Express = Slow, and a test shoot.

Day 8 dawns wet and miserable. Even more miserable because the blackout fabric expected today was not arriving... So much for Amazon Express delivery; the things I didn't pay Express for did arrive!

Ah well, once more unto the breach.

Julie is bringing along an old friend of hers and former model, Dean, who I've shot with about 9 years ago. He's lodging with her at present, and has a couple of days off from his work in a tattoo parlour (you'd never guess to look at him...), so we do a test shoot together, both to try the setup and give Julie more experience with the lights. We get some nice images, albeit hampered by the lack of blackout cloth...

[For the uninitiated, having daylight in a studio doesn't affect shots done with flash, but makes it hard to see your lighting setup, so you are struggling to get light exactly right.]

The blog image is one of the images captured, but I also liked these. Note all these are pretty much straight out of camera; some cropping and minor levels adjustments is about the limit of the changes made:

Into the woods...

All images from the shoot will be on Flickr later in high-res, and I'll update this post with a link.
